[Edit]The We Burn Bridges EP introduces listeners to Caligula's tech-metal onslaught — a positively terrifying maelstrom of expert musicianship, head-spinning complexity, and unmitigated fury. But the band also favors quite a bit of contrast to go with the daunting arrangements on this 2004 release, throwing a techno drum loop into "This Boring War," preceding the same with an almost Latin-flavored acoustic guitar instrumental that is conspicuous by its gentle ambience, and sneaking occasional snippets of melodic and memorable riffs into the likes of "Constant Reminders of You" and the awesomely apocalyptic "Tonight Tastes Like the End." For an introduction, this EP will do just fine, and one can only imagine what sort of dangerous impact a full album from this band may produce.
