Carina Round's fourth album, Tigermending, focuses on Round's sultry vocals, which, when provoked, rise up for a fight. Her British roots have given way to her Los Angeles environment. Her music plays with cinematic fury. "The Last Time," featuring Sierra Swan, rages with anger at love, at oneself, at a lover about to be excommunicated, at anything it can find. "Girl and the Ghost" follows; it starts as a free and easy acoustic-based art-pop tune before hitting turmoil at its chorus. From there, the sound expands. Dave Stewart and Brian Eno join in for the atmospheric swell of "The Secret of Drowning," where the vocal arrangement spirals to dizzying heights. "You Will Be Loved" and "Marcel Marcel/The Arrangement" (featuring Claire Acey) follow a similar schematic, as the songs build momentum in quick time. This bonus track version of the album includes the hard and solid "Got to Go (LA Song)," which has input from Billy Corgan.
