[Edit]While Canada isn't known for its abundance of soul or R&B performers, Carlos Morgan is a bright spot in a small field. Nominated for a Canadian Juno Award in 1997, the album is teeming with some infectious grooves, brief rap, and hip-hop interludes and heartfelt crooning. Despite the numerous contributors and writers on the album, there is a surprising amount of cohesiveness. From the opener "Baby C'mon" and "Don't Let This Thing Slide," each song is allowed to evolve naturally. Highlights include the slow, soulful title track and "Let Me Love Again." A slight problem is the track order, which tends to clump funkier up-tempo numbers and slower, romantic ballads together. Although the territory has been treaded on many times before, this album proves that, if done well, it still works.
