[Edit]Though most of the great Lisbon fado singers have been women, there have also been some famous males. As this very rare early LP confirms, Ramos was among the finest. For what one amateur called the "gorgeous yowling" of the emotional women's style, he substituted a subtle and elegant melancholy. This is the true and authentic sound, with a classic guitar-viola backing rich in saudade.
