The most interesting aspect to this CD is that cornetist Ernie Carson performs 13 selections that are mostly very obscure; only "Creole Belles" is well-known. It is fair to say that such numbers as "Mississippi Cabaret," "There's a Lump of Sugar Down in Dixie," "When a Peach from Georgia Weds a Rose from Alabama" and "I'm Sittin' Pretty in a Pretty Little City Down Georgia Way" are far from standards. Ten of the numbers were recorded in 1983 while the remaining three were cut a decade later to bring this former LP to the length of a CD. Unfortunately, all but two songs have vocals by either Carson or banjoist Bill Rutan and those attempts at singing give this a corny moldy-fig flavor despite the fresh material. Why didn't Carson hire a real singer for the gig? There are some decent cornet solos by Carson and fine playing from either Charlie Bornemann or Steve Yokum on trombone, and John Otto or Tom Fischer on clarinet, but the singing really lowers the music's quality.
