Accordion master Chango Spasiuk spearheaded the contemporary chamame movement in Argentina and as his first international release, Tarefero de Mis Pagos extends his influence with spirited, yet elegant, tunes from traditional and modern sources. The 13-track CD offers ten instrumentals and three Spanish vocals, all brimming with the heady mix of joy and hardship of the northeastern farming provinces that birthed chamame. Most of the tunes are swingy dance numbers such as the rollicking opening track, "El Prostibulo" but a few, such as the haunting, melancholy "Escenas de la Vida en el Borde," display complex layers of emotions. Tarefero de Mis Pagos provides a good slice of Argentinean folk culture for both old and new fans.
