For Chore, being angst-ridden isn't whining about the world around them — it's absorbing and experiencing the myriad of feelings that come with disappointment, regret, fear, and anger, and expressing them through song. Take My Mask and Breathe sustains the powerful emotion of Another Plebeian — if anything, the desperation is intensified on this album ("I wake up and pray that my dreams are not premonitions," from "Trifler"). That's not to say Chore can't have a little fun on tracks like "Coprock," but the main theme is still judgment — however, instead of the self-inflicted pain rampant on Another Plebeian, Take My Mask and Breathe's introspection results in anger and blame toward others. Overall, Chore sounds a bit more polished, and experiments with its sound a bit with a few techno loops, hand claps, and the grand "A Coma," weighing in at over 14 minutes. Still evolving, Chore's second full-length continues the band's painful but fascinating dive into the human psyche.
