Chris Ardoin and Double Clutchin' continue to be the most forward-looking of all the young zydeco bands coming up. Their use of modern beats merging with the oldest of musical traditions in the genre makes for a what's-old-is-new mix that's hard to ignore. From the rap modal style of "Fever for Your Flavor," awith superb soulful guitar interplay from Bobby Broussard and Nathaniel Fontenot, to Canray Fontenot's ancient-sounding (by comparison) "Barres de la Prison," this album snares a pretty wide musical net with big-time results. Brothers Chris and Sean Ardoin's intuitive relationship between their respective accordion and drums is seamless and highlighted superbly on "Talk Talk," "Early One Morning," "Acting the Devil," a great medley of "Stay In or Stay Out" and "Pass the Dutchie," "Double Clutchin' Old Style" and the title track. Equally as seamless is the groove laid down by bassist Dee Greenwood and rub-board gal Tammy Ledet, making the whole band sound one of constant motion. When they talk about zydeco being irresistible dance music, this is what they're talking about.
