[Edit]Welcome to Power Pop for ADD People. For years now, with Olivia Tremor Control and Circulatory System, Will Hart has been slicing and dicing his best ideas into a whirlwind of sound where few songs last long enough to fully digest them in one sitting. 2014’s Mosaics Within Mosaics is a 31-track, hourlong trip into Hart’s glorious world. At just one minute and 27 seconds, the acoustic ballad “It’s Love” clearly needs to be played at least twice to satiate a listener’s appetite for the song's beauty. Comparisons to Smile-era Brian Wilson have been made by Rolling Stone magazine, while others might imagine the 1967-1968 Beatles being recorded by a lo-fi engineer with an advanced degree in Guided by Voices or R. Stevie Moore. Numerous Elephant 6 collective players waltz in and out of the tracks, which are said to date as far back as 2002. Hart deserves credit for weaving a listenable narrative. Eight “Mosaic” pieces further provide interludes to the interludes. The gorgeous weirdness of “When You’re Small” arguably distills the madness in one quick dose.
