A limited-edition adjunct to New York emo trio City of Caterpillar's debut album, Demo and Live Recordings delivers exactly what the title promises: the group's initial five-song demo, part of which had previously been issued on a split EP with System 2600, and a radio session recorded at New York University's college station. The two live tracks that also appear on the album, the frenzied "So When Was the Last Time We Painted Over the Blood on the Walls" and a slightly more focused take of the epic "A Little Change Can Go a Long Ways," have a bit more power and heft to them in these versions, and the two otherwise unavailable songs, "An Innocent Face" and "Shadows of Ghosts Passing on City Streets," bode well for the group's future. However, the five untitled songs of the demo show the band in a state best described as promising but unformed, and they're strictly for completists. Collector-geek alert: the initial LP pressing of Demo and Live Recordings was on clear vinyl.
