Claude Nougaro's two main influences are very much evident in this compilation. His passion for jazz — which he shared with his frequent collaborators Michel Legrand, Jacques Datin, and Maurice Vander — is reflected in such compositions as "Le Jazz et la Java," "Une Petite Fille," and "Les Don Juan," while "Armstrong," his tribute to the great jazz performer, is set to the tune of "Let My People Go." Brazilian rhythms permeate the songs "Bidonville" (Shanty Town), "Brésilien," and one of Nougaro's biggest successes, "Tu Verras," which is actually a reworking of a famous song by Brazilian singer Chico Buarque.
