Details
[Edit]The rich, sensuous alto voice of Colombian artist Claudia Gomez is an instrument of extraordinary beauty, and her sensual delivery assures that she would be a sought-after vocalist. What this album proves is that she's much more than just a voice. Besides writing about half the songs here, she arranged them and backs them with a fluid samba-styled guitar, plus percussion and tuneful whistling. It's not surprising that someone with her talent was also able to assemble a crack band to make this album, and the studio veterans she recruited do a fine job of subtle backup. Each does their part to make the album shine, but the album is clearly Claudia's. Her songs are in Spanish, but no fluency is needed to enjoy this album as her languid voice floats over the lovely mix of guitars and percussion. For those who really like to follow the lyrics, Xenophile has helpfully translated them from Spanish to English and provided lyrics in both languages. This album is a fine and accessible introduction to South American jazz in general and the prodigiously talented Claudia Gomez in particular.
