Details
[Edit]While his music has the sort of sheen you'd expect from someone who's become a Nashville fixture, Cody Johnson's heartland East Texas roots are inescapable, coursing through every track of Cowboy Like Me. "Dance Her Home" is a boot-scootin' dancehall anthem complete with a fiddle solo and Johnson's promise that "If she gives me half a chance/I'm gonna dance her home," while "Me and My Kind" describes a girl Johnson's managed to turn off of cowboys completely: "She's over buckles, she's over spurs." "Proud" is a smoldering midtempo number where Johnson brags about having "never been inside a three-piece suit." "Holes" shows off the crooner's way around a ballad, his smoky baritone telling a tale of loss and redemption. He may have small-town roots, but you can expect big things from Johnson.
