Punk rock heroes Conflict ended their career quite a while before the release of this album. Collecting 20 of their songs together on one collection, this is a document of some of the most politically charged punk to grace England's shores. Spewing their anarchist views with the assault of contemporaries such as Killing Joke and Dead Kennedys, Conflict helped pioneer the murky, dark sounds of many of the fringe punk rockers that sprung up in their wake. The music that they made was often very clouded and eerie, which reflected the view they had of the time they lived in. Unfortunately, that same sound does not translate as well given time and a different political climate. The album is still quite interesting and serves well as a historical document. But as a block of music, there are definitely some weaknesses that are hard for the casual listener to overcome. This is an important document of a band who will probably only appeal to a very small group of open-minded listeners.
