Like the colorful Coogi sweaters favored by ’90s rappers, Seoul MC Coogie inhabits a space between grimy street and melodic mainstream. His flossy rhyme style, similar to Post Malone minus significant vocal enhancement, devotes mind space to affairs of the heart (“Ride With Me,” “NONO,” “Right Away”) and how the grind never stops (“All I Know,” “North Face”). Coogie is happy to take the win (“I Made It”), but in celebrating, he does so responsibly. “In My Cup” pairs Coogie with rapper BILL STAX in the hardest anti-lean PSA you’re likely to hear. They dismiss sizzurp and xans, and then shout out their beverages of choice. Coogie fills his red Solo cup with Coke, Zero sports drinks, Sprite, and Welch’s, while Stax rides with coffee, gin, wine, and Jack Daniel’s whiskey. Cheers to them.
