Cornershop long ago established its unusual mix of East meets West and is now exploring different vocal styles. Satisfied with Bubbley Kaur's voice on 2011's Cornershop and the Double Groove Of, the group has added a string of guest singers for 2012's Urban Turban: The Singhles Club, a collection that features many tracks issued through the band's Singhles Club. The students of Castle Hill Primary School add shouts and giggles to the silly and spacy "What Did the Hippie Have in His Bag?" Old-school hip-hop gets employed to critique the modern scene on "Milkin' It." "Non-Stop Radio" throws out a '80s-designed dance groove, with Celeste singing in French and doing her best to sound as detached as the weird and wacky Flying Lizards in their prime. Fat analog synths bounce throughout the deliberately repetitive "Dedicated." "Something Makes You Feel Like" barely rewrites "Wild Thing." From the avant-garde to the dance floor, Cornershop continues to mine the space between art and commerce with a sense of fun and irreverence.
