Details
[Edit]Not “country rap” in the sense of Uncle Kracker or Cowboy Troy, this 13-track compilation focuses on the more laconic and laidback vibe of Texas-based hip-hop, specifically the work of Cory Mo and his many associates. Coming out of Houston, Mo's a veteran producer/engineer/emcee, mentored by the late, great Pimp C. He runs two successful recording studios (in Houston and Atlanta) and has worked with a wide assortment of artists over the last decade; his other business ventures include tequila, a publishing company, and film projects. But music is his first love, as evidenced on this high-quality mix. Kicking off with a shoutout from Erykah Badu, the tracks here prominently feature Cory's smooth, low-key verbals set to chunky beats, rolling synths, and bluesy guitar licks, while guest appearances come from Bun B, Berner, GLC, and Devin the Dude's Coughee Brothaz crew. Standout joints include "Ain't Nobody Trippin (Remix)," "Gettin' to the Money," "I Cried," and the absurdly funky "Roll with a G."
