Crestfallen is a now-defunct band from Virginia that was around for approximately five years. Hailing from the same scene as Majority Rule and pg. 99, it's no surprise that Crestfallen played screamy, fast hardcore with some really short songs and a few long songs. In total, there are nine songs on Streaks of Terror, with a varied and wide sound. The last tune, "Eternal Nightmare," sounds reminiscent of the Crucified, an '80s skate-thrash metal band whose origins were from the West Coast. Occasionally, the music relaxes into the stereotypical introspective guitar parts that one might expect on a hardcore album, while at other times the primary focus is the dirty hardcore sound with double bass drums and metal mosh breakdowns. The whole pace of the album is pretty furious, however, with occasional spots to catch one's breath before plunging back into the pit. Much of the lyrical content seems to describe broken promises about a life promised to today's youth and the disillusionment that follows. Not a bad display for the band to go out on, and it will no doubt serve as a good position from which other bands might emerge.
