Details
[Edit]Taking an altogether unique approach to the shoegazer sounds of the early '90s, Cruiser injects elements of country-rock and Celtic into its mélange of electronic textures and beats. The subtle influence of the bandmembers' native Scotland shows up more than would be expected, with the vocals wafting effortlessly over a variety of intricately humming electronic drones. The resulting product is both innovative and melodically compelling, with understated pop melodies and consistently engaging arrangements dominating an impressively varied set. On other tracks, the sounds turn more atmospheric and expansive, yet never suffer from repetition or an overly ponderous quality. Overall, an interesting marriage of modern and traditional elements that makes for a debut that nearly finds a new niche in contemporary music.
