Details
[Edit]British trumpeter Damon Brown and a quintet of other young Brits (along with three guests) perform ten of Brown's driving originals plus "Bye Bye Blackbird." The music is similar to that of Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, although the material is fresher and obscure. Brown and tenor saxophonist Andy Panayi take plenty of creative and swinging solos within the hard bop genre, the rhythm section understands the idiom well, and the guests sometimes make the quintet a sextet. This little-known set should interest hard bop fans.
