[Edit]Details
[Edit]Rhythms of Paradise is a deeply moving CD by Daniel Paul with Dean Evenson. The focal point of the disc is Paul's tabla drum set. These ancient drums create "lyrical rhythms" that become the melodies of the compositions. Paul created 12 pieces on the tabla tarong — "the harp of drums." He then transcribed them to be performed on dotar, sarod, and tabla — all from India — accompanied by Celtic harp, hammered dulcimer, African drums, flute, violin, and keyboards. Guest performers are Bruce BecVar, Lorelei, Evenson, Jai Uttal, Steve Kindler, Raphael, Michael Pluznick, and Glenno Falkenberg. The music is vibrant and full. Paul's sound design incorporates worldbeat and new age sensitivities. The atmospheres drift along the soundscapes. Deep listeners will feel the warmth of the gentle sound worlds as the music caresses and guides. This CD will appeal to fans of Al Gromer Khan, Anugama, Tom Barabas, and Jonathan Goldman.
