Once you get past the somewhat predictable opening single "Bad for Me," Danielle Peck's second studio album is hardly sophomoric in quality. "Brick By Brick" peels off with a banjo intro before kick-starting like a Keith Urban hit, implementing rootsy gear like vintage guitars plugged into old tube amps and a warm sounding Hammond B-3 organ. The title track shifts gears from new traditional twang to a more country-pop oriented number that's catchy enough to stay in your head long after the first listen. Peck's smoky timbered vocal prowess really opens up on the moving "Do It for Me." The Rachel Proctor-penned "Get You Back" blends weepy honky-tonk balladry in the verses with frisky, up-tempo, country-rocking choruses making for a delightfully bipolar tune. (Peck sings this one noticeably better than the original version that appears on Proctor's 2004 album Where I Belong.) "Lay Back Down" is a playful and seductive number where Peck's endearingly roused voice lures a lover back to bed, and on "That's What Angels Do" her vocals triumph over a formulaic stadium serenade.
