Details
[Edit]Of two Dobbyn retrospectives, the earlier collection spans as far as Loyal, while Overnight continues to 1998's Islander. Neither are perfect, but this is the better of the two. Kicking off with an emphatic reworking of "Be Mine Tonight," after which anything would seem lightweight, rocker "Devil You Know" is cumbersome by comparison. The next few tracks have dated badly, should not have been included, and are best skipped to "Slice of Heaven" and "Loyal," both voted Top Ten New Zealand songs of all time. There's a run of songs in the same key which make Overnight Success drag. The album is worthy mention for inclusion of "Love You Like I Should" and the beauties "Language" and "Madeleine Avenue."
