In 2001, American male singer David Pomeranz released On This Day on the Philippine affiliate of international label Universal Music, to which he has been signed since 1999. This is his third album for the label. David Pomeranz is accompanied by both Philippine and American musicians, and the album was recorded in the Philippines and the United States. David Pomeranz's soothing, romantic sound is tailor-made for the Philippines, where mellow, easy-on-the-ears music is very popular. For example, the title track, "On This Day," which opens this album, is quintessential David Pomeranz, and features a tender melody that he sings with warmth and sincerity. To his credit, instead of performing track after track of middle-of-the-road love songs (which happens on many Philippine easy listening albums), David Pomeranz is wise and talented enough to mix it up and show some diversity. "My Safe Harbor," "Trail of Broken Dreams," "Tangled and Tied," and "Oh, Stephanie" are performed in a spirited manner, and his energy and passion is contagious. David Pomeranz's voice is in fine form throughout the album, and he sings in a strong middle register and a mesmerizing upper register. According to the album credits, many of the songs were published in 2001. "The Truth of Us" is the title song from an earlier David Pomeranz album. He co-wrote seven of the album's 13 songs and wrote two songs alone ("The Truth of Us" and "Tangled and Tied"), and performs four songs by other composers, including a warm version of the Everly Brothers hit "Devoted to You." One of the album's best songs is the penetrating ballad "Where Do We Go From Now." David Pomeranz knows how to make a romantic album.
