Details
[Edit]Cornetist De De Pierce led two record dates during his career that did not include his wife Billie Pierce on piano and vocals. This outing matches Pierce with a variety of fellow New Orleans jazz veterans (trombonist Jim Robinson, clarinetist Geroge Lewis, bassist Chester Zardis and drummer Alex Bigard) plus European pianist Lars Ivar Edegran. The liner notes of the ragged and far from flawless but fine LP describe the last-minute struggle that the musicians had in 1966 to find a hall in New Orleans where a mixed-race group could record. The results are enjoyable, with such tunes as "Cocoanut Island," "Margie," "Coquette" and even the "Beer Barrel Polka" faring well as ensemble-oriented trad jazz.
