The Canadian Debbie Danbrook is one of the few women in the world playing the shakuhachi, the instrument being traditionally played by Japanese Zen Buddhist monks, thus reserved to men. Although she plays traditional Japanese honkyoku pieces for solo shakuhachi, her main interest is to compose original meditation and relaxation music for healing purposes. This CD is the seventh of a series on meditation music, and contains a compilation of pieces from the six previous. You hear pieces for shakuhachi solo, shakuhachi duet, shakuhachi with voice, harmonics, chanting, or koto. Danbrook sings, chants, and plays the koto. Her music and her playing are compelling and soothing. It reaches its goal in relaxing and bring the listening into a meditative state. A music to be listened to, not only heard. ~ Bruno DeschĂȘnes, Rovi
