1984’s comeback album told the world which lineup was considered the "real" Deep Purple. It wasn’t the original group with vocalist Rod Evans, but the second version: singer Ian Gillan, guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, bassist Roger Glover, keyboardist Jon Lord, and drummer Ian Paice. The members had to leave their day jobs in Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Whitesnake, and Gary Moore’s backing band to make this happen. But when they did, they were amply rewarded: their 1985 U.S. tour was a mega-success. Live versions of these songs give them even greater room to run, but the charms of “Knocking at Your Back Door,” “Nobody’s Home," and “Perfect Strangers” were clearly enough for everyone involved to feel good about the chemistry. This remastered edition adds the cassette-only track “Not Responsible” and the instrumental track “Son of Alerik,” which had been released as a b-side to the “Perfect Strangers” 12” single in the U.K.
