Utah’s Desert Noises do, in fact, include an Osmond; bassist Tyler Osmond hails from the famous family. With their legacy of hard work and dedication in his blood, he and his fellow bandmates are working at becoming a well-known hard rock band with roots influences. “Mice in the Kitchen” certainly tips its hand toward Mumford & Sons, but “Grandma Looks,” “Run Through the Woods," and “Dime in My Pocket” suggest a mix of Led Zeppelin, Queens of the Stone Age, and The North Mississippi All-Stars. You can shake up 27 Ways like a Magic Eight-Ball as many times as you like and each time receive a different impression as to what makes Desert Noises so formidable. Much of the band's charm rests with frontman Kyle Henderson, who sings with a sincerity and commitment that lends authenticity to the material. Well-executed harmonies, versatile drumming from Brennan Allen, and sparkling guitar work from Patrick Boyer highlight the country-rock burn of “Follow You Out” and the epic open-space battle of “Elephant’s Bed.” The bonus track, “Love You Like a Cigarette,” clearly drifts from their Mormon roots to the pleasures of modern rock.
