[Edit]Right up there with Dr. Dre in discussions about the best hip-hop producer of all time, DJ Premier is an undisputed legend with a body of work stretching back to the '80s. While perhaps best known for his exceptional material as half of Gang Starr (with six albums between '89 and '03), he's also crafted countless classics for other artists, including Group Home, Jeru the Damaja, Biggie, Jay-Z, Bumpy Knuckles, Big Shug, Afu-Ra, Capone-N-Noreaga, and even pop princess Christina Aguilera. Known and respected for blatantly rejecting hip-hop's many changing trends ('80s samples, huge synths, Auto-Tune, IDM jacking, etc.), he continues to produce records by his own set of rules, using obscure loops, scratched hooks, and face-smashing drum hits. This self-released compilation collects a dozen unreleased joints that showcase his timeless skills. Check out "N.Y.S.O.M.," "Change," "I Don't Know," and "Epic-Ishh."
