Night Music is an hour-long collection of mainly short pieces played on the Yamaha Midi grand piano, a state-of-the-art digital instrument which allows Alldis to explore the interplay between piano and synthesizer. The central theme for the compositions is the multiple images evoked by the night, and accordingly the music varies from tranquil ballads and moody nocturnes to livelier pieces with notes cascading like brilliant meteor showers on a crisp clear night. He plays thoughtfully and with sensitivity, and his use of synthesizer gives the piano an electronic aura that makes it glow in the dark. While the mood tends toward the lunar and introspective, Night Music is also full of bright melodicism and playful impressionism that suffuses it with its own personable charm. Imported from England, and produced by James Asher (of "The Great Wheel" fame), Night Music appears on James's Lumina Music label, and was recently featured on Music from the Hearts of Space. ~ Backroads Music/Heartbeats, Rovi
