Trabanten

Donato Wharton proves to be a glitch-pop producer as skilled as most others in his field. Trabanten, his debut for City Centre Offices, mixes computer noise with thorny acoustic guitar licks, heavily treated keyboard melodies, found sounds, and several other elements. This all adds up to another album full of dreamy sensations that can either be left to the background or fully lived within. Rhythmically, there's a wide variety of approaches taken. "Terminus" rides in on a subdued 4/4 pulse; "Is That Why Yr Still on Earth" is tied together only by a hypnotizing hi-hat; a couple others bare a hip-hop inspiration without sounding much like the type of thing you'd expect from Prefuse 73. It's nothing special, but that hardly strips it of its charm.
