Details
[Edit]This shimmering folk-pop album is the most accessible release by Midwestern U.S. group Downy Mildew, though it was also their final. Slow Sky shows a much more assured and mature band than debuted on Broomtree, continuing to build on the strengths of their previous An Oncoming Train. For the most part, the songs are bright and airy, highlighted by hook-laden gems such as "Left Foot Down," "A Liar Needs a Good Memory," and "Them That Dream." The more somber, darker "A Polka-Dot Scarved Woman" and "Release" balance out the jangle. Throughout, the shared vocals of Jenny Homer and the band's creative force, Charlie Baldonado, fit seamlessly with the guitar-dominated full-band sound.
