Details
[Edit]The Mytotyc Exyt EP is a sober release that feels more considered than Cell, but is experimenting with a new direction. At times the sound drifts into the territory of Gridlock, another project in which Cadoo plays a part — the tectonic bass and ethereal washes play against the more intentional breaks of "Caloc (Version)." "Drywht" likewise marks a return to the noise of Cell, with sharply defined breaks bent with an IDM sensibility taking the centerpiece. However, Dryft is more than a callback to a previous style. "Dibt2e" subtly uses a barely recognizable cut-up hip-hop break as its foundation that suffuses the track with an organic feel, despite the crafted electronic design and disjointed nature of the sample. "Mytotyc Exyt" also experiments with this idea, but in both cases the hip-hop flavor never dominates the smooth Dryft soundscape. The three remixes further explore the sounds of The Mytotyc Exyt EP. The flavors of the remixers all but override the original compositions, but hold true to the tone that Dryft has established with the preceding tracks. The planned fracturing of sound of The Mytotyc Exyt EP is both an evolution from previous work and a kick-start in a new direction. If there wasn't enough material in these musical ideas for a full-album release, so be it — what made it to mastering is fully realized and rendered. Ignore it at your peril.
