Ducktails’ Matthew Mondanile (also the guitarist for Real Estate) initially made this alternate version of “Killin the Vibe” available only on vinyl, and now it’s also an exclusive track. What makes this take so different? It features guest vocals from Animal Collective’s Panda Bear and additional contributions from Woods' Dent May and Jarvis Taveniere. It plays with reverberated, surfy guitars and a splash of '60s-flavored tambourine as Mondanile sings through watery tape echo; the result sounds like early recordings by Beachwood Sparks offshoot band The Tyde (albeit much more lo-fi). “Sit Around with Ya” simmers down a bit. It features folky acoustic guitar alongside electric six-string leads that sound piped through a warbling Leslie speaker, while Mondanile sings with nasal inflections not unlike a young Gerard Love from Teenage Fanclub. The loungy “Couch Surfer” is performed on a '70s home organ with rudimentary drum machine settings, but Mondanile injects the tune with wonderfully contrasted rock guitar leads before a live recording of the title track closes.
