Although never really a New Orleans jazz player, Earl "Fatha" Hines fits in well with the New Orleans musicians on this likable LP. Trumpeter Wallace Davenport is the most impressive of the sidemen, which also include the George Lewis-inspired clarinetist Orange Kellin, trombonist Tom Ebert, Emanuel Sayles on guitar and banjo, bassist Lloyd Lambert and drummer Louis Barbarin. The music includes Dixieland standards, Kellin's "Playing With Fire," and a couple of obscurities ("Sugar Babe," which dates from the 1920s, and "Elephant Stomp"). Hines, who takes the vocal on "Do You Know What It Means to Miss New Orleans" (Davenport also takes two), is in relaxed and upbeat form throughout the date.
