Ectomorph's fourth release for the label is a daring step in the effort to push the limits of vinyl as a format. The A-side contains two mixes of "Subversion" set up as a double groove — where each mix starts at the outer edge of the record on its own groove. In effect, the listener or DJ is forced to closely examine the piece of art — er — vinyl, to discover what is hidden and discern which cut pleases most or has a preferred function. The track itself exploits a highly processed vocal utterance for syncopation against Ectomorph's unmistakable rhythmic didacticism to reach the moody space also explored in the first three releases. "(We Have Come To) Destroy Your Power Centers (Beats)" is a bonus rhythm piece with a unique and schizophrenic approach to programming — while the B-side opener "Only in Shadows," is an even further fracture from the groove set by ectomorph's prior releases — it's got a four-to-the-floor kick!?! This rhythmic assumption submits to the warmth of a bassline that evokes Fingers under a spooky high line. "Slither" brings back good ole' "funky electro beat" for another cut of dark psychedelia. "Destroy Your Power Centers" stands on its own as a vinyl oddity while it describes the evolution of Ectomorph seen in the context of their discography.
