Details
[Edit]Greatest Hits is a misnomer since Eddie Holloway didn't actually have any chart hits — he was a popular performer and independent recording artist of the Southern blues circuit. This collection includes most of Holloway's 1991 album I Had a Good Time and half of his 1998 album Hollerin' 'n' Poppin', both of which were released on the Hot Productions label. There are a few recordings of more recent vintage, including a cover of Luther Ingram's early-'70s hit "If Lovin' You Is Wrong (I Don't Want to Be Right)." All of the early recordings use dated synth and electronic drum sounds that distract from Holloway's organic blues and soul style, but his vocal performances are unfailingly excellent. The recent recordings, of which the aching "I Found a Love" is a highlight, continue to make use of digital strings and rhythms that are less blatantly synthetic, but it would still be worthwhile if some label would take Holloway into a studio with a real drummer and string section. He is easily talented enough to warrant the application of top-notch production values.
