Details
[Edit]Eddy Navia is a Bolivian charango player extraordinaire who, when not playing traditional Andean music, has looked to David Grisman, Tony Trischka, Doc Watson, and historic classical composers for new charango possibilities. Mozart En Machu Picchu & Tiahuanco Bluegrass is Navia's tour de force. As the former frontman of the Bolivian folk band Savia Andina and member of Sukay, Navia has a wealth of Andean music to draw upon. Although the charango is still his weapon of choice, Navia doesn't limit himself to Andean folk songs, as Rossini, Schubert, J.S. Bach and Mozart lend their compositions. The familiar Russian folk song "Kalinka" is as much a natural on the armadillo-shell-derived charango as on the balalaika.
