Details
[Edit]If someone wrote a dance-punk jam about an Aliens sex party — "Ripley's not ready to get it on/Til Vasquez gets those big black boots on!" — wouldn't you love it? "Sigourney Weaver" and 13 other celebrity-specific anthems await you on Her Love Is Real... But She Is Not, El Guapo/Supersystem member Justin Moyer's second album as drag queen tattler Edie Sedgwick. "Robert Downey Jr." is sort of an easy target. But the song's "Relapse! Recovery!" chant is really addicting. There's a bit of synth pop or new romantic wrapped up in the chattering keyboards of "Molly Ringwald," and "Tim Robbins" is a one-woman hardcore band rant against the liberal star. Arnold Schwarzenegger is big enough to warrant two pieces from Sedgwick, and "Haley Joel Osment" is a creepy intersection of wheezing vintage keys and Moyer's layered sneer. Her Love Is Real works because Moyer isn't trying to be funny, at least not all the time. His lyrics are often boiled down to a chant or central phrase, but there are still little insights that he means business. Er, at least some kind of business. Whatever it is, nothing changes the party-starting electric rattle of "Sigourney Weaver" and "Sally Field." Spitting at the stars over his mess of keyboards, hyper drum machines, and freaky electronic squiggles, Edie Sedgwick is a mouthpiece for the dirty dance-punk underbelly of celebrity news. Her Love Is Real... But She Is Not is entertainment tonight.
