[Edit]Who bangs the drum for Edsel? (And by that I don't mean their drummer, John Dugan). Perhaps it's because they aren't easily slotted to some fashionable clique, be it riot grrl, punk, noise, whatever, but this solid D.C. quartet seem to be still fighting for notice, when so many mediocre types have formed since this quartet began and are now all the rage. Schrab Habibion and mates deserve to be signed, if that's what they wish. There's no reason this jarring, vibrating, post-Wire edge, which reminds a little of Versus at their meatiest — definitely a must for fans of that group — shouldn't be coming at us from every "modern rock" radio station in the land, a full fourteen songs that keep the lava licks coming with intelligence, hot-wired guitars, and Habibion's boiled-over indifference. Detroit Folly is Edsel delivering once again; acclaim should be theirs. And maybe the original Edsel decades ago wasn't such a bad car after all.
