Ekrem is the seventh studio album by Eko Fresh, released eight years after his Top 20 debut, Ich Bin Jung und Brauche das Geld. Not all of the German rapper's activities since then have been entirely successful or received well (including several appearances in reality TV shows), and Eko discusses some of them on the tracks "B-Promi Status" and "Ekrem vs. Eko Fresh" (where he performs a duet with himself, portraying two different personas). Elsewhere, he tells the story of a so-called honor killing ("Köln Kalk Ehrenmord") and deals with child abuse ("Unsere Kinder"), offers "translations" of street slang ("Straßendeutsch/Türkenslang"), and spends several tracks boasting about his skills. He also covers Nino de Angelo's schlager hit "Jenseits von Eden," inviting de Angelo to guest on the track. Ekrem (which is Eko Fresh's actual first name) debuted at number five on the German album charts.
