Details
[Edit]As Orquesta Revé near their 50th birthday, now under the expert direction of Elio Revé, Jr., it seems only appropriate to take a look back at the inventive character that ensured such longevity for the group. From popularizing the rural changui style to sowing the seeds of modern timba, it's hard to overestimate the influence of this trendsetting outfit. Rumberos Latino Americanos offers a guided tour of Elio Revé, Sr.'s unique repertoire and vision of Cuban music. Revé's use of folkloric rhythms such as rhumba clave, ritual bata, or guaguancó in popular dance styles, a practice that is now much more common, is just one example of his pioneering spirit. With arrangements more hip and interesting than many being written and performed today, not to mention the charmingly tuneful melodic sense of his songwriting, Elio Revé could be the most influential, most talented bandleader that you've never heard. Though the fidelity of this recording is less than fantastic (slightly below par even for the time period), the fresh, inspirational quality of the music makes this disc a valuable commodity.
