Details
[Edit]Recorded during various stops throughout Canada (33 shows in 36 nights), it's quite obvious that Ember Swift has dipped many fingers into a wide selection of genre pies. From the ethereal shades on "Show Up Outside" to the funky bass supporting the opening track, "5$," rarely are two songs alike. At times phrases seem somewhat crammed into the mix on a song like "Elbows," with the lyrical pace changing often from start to finish. Corporate agendas, urban planning, and a rather caustic, harsh yet humorous look at fairy tales in "Goldilox" make up the heart of the album. Generally though, the different influences and styles tend to result in a cohesive album instead of a ragtag assortment of music. Highlights include the Latin flavor of "Happiness Ball" and "(Freestylin') Porpoise." "Freestyling is what we like to do," she sings during one song. Truer words couldn't define the album better. And most of it works.
