[Edit]Before Butch Vig became a world-class producer (working with the likes of Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Green Day, and Sonic Youth), or co-founded the celebrated alternative rock band Garbage, he played with a pair of fine country-influenced pop bands, Spooner and Fire Town, and Vig's 2014 musical project, the Emperors of Wyoming, finds him in familiar territory. Mixing melodic rock & roll with country accents, and tossing in pedal steel, banjo, and fiddle along with the drums and guitars, The Emperors of Wyoming features Vig working with a handful of longtime friends and musical partners — his former Fire Town bandmate Phil Davis, novelist and filmmaker Franklin Anderson, and musician and vintner Peter Anderson. Together, the Emperors of Wyoming create atmospheric, evocative music that blends the moods of past and present into roots rock that's admirably free of cliches. The Emperors of Wyoming was originally released by Proper Records in Europe in 2012; in 2014, an expanded edition with three additional tracks was issued in America by Liaison Music in 2014.
