Placido Domingo is joined by vocalists Marta Senn and Eduard Tomagian and the English Chamber Orchestra conducted by Eugene Kohn for a short 1987 concert called An Evening With Placido Domingo. The performance was recorded at Wembley Arena in London on June 21, 1987, to benefit UNICEF's Save the Children fund. The selections include Giacomo Puccini's Il Piu Non Torni: La Boheme, Act IV and Ch'ella Mi Creda: La Fanciulla Del West, Giuseppe Verdi's Sole Or Siamo: Il Trovatore, "El Gato Montes" from Pasodobles, a Spanish opera, and "Cuore Ingrato," a Neapolitan folk song. An Evening With Placido Domingo, like many of the "Three Tenors" releases, is designed for a mainstream audience. As such, it delivers, though an expert opera enthusiast might prefer a full Puccini opera to this broad survey. At 53 minutes, An Evening With Placido Domingo is also timed to finish when those with short attention spans might be growing tired.
