New LDS instrumental group takes a joyful romp through popular LDS hymns in this debut album. Clive Romney came up with the concept of showing just how far the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has come from its radical beginnings, through traditionalism and now through its embracing of its worldwide membership. As a result, in addition to being a debut for the group, this is definitely a concept album, because it was created with a specific approach in mind. Promotional materials for the album compare this group to Mannheim Steamroller and with good reason. Enoch Train waves a magic wand over well-loved hymns and transforms them into something with a world music appeal. Whether an individual is familiar with hymns or not, they will certainly appreciate the soundness of the group's music. But for those within the LDS community who are willing to hear a new style, they will appreciate how well Clive Romney, Rich Dixon and Daron Bradford capture the essence of the hymns in their completely different arrangements. Sure to be a hit with the kids is Dixon's arrangement of "Popcorn Poppin' on the Apricot Tree" that he titled "Apricot Jam." This song alone would make a terrific foundation for teaching children (or adults for that matter) how to recognize the melody strain in two radically different arrangements of the same song. ~ Dacia A.
