[Edit]The strength of the Cleveland jazz scene in the mid-'80s is displayed on this advanced hard bop LP. The great tenor Ernie Krivda co-leads the set with trumpeter Kenny Davis, although the then-unknown pianist Allan Farnham (who later hooked up with Concord) would eventually achieve the greatest fame; electric bassist Kyp Reed and drummer Val Kent complete the quintet. On six Krivda originals, one by Davis and a brief "Freedom Jazz Dance," the group digs in and comes up with fresh and fiery statements.
