[Edit]Simon Ward, Stephen Livingstone, and Greg Paterson added drummer James Hamilton for their sophomore album. But even though Errors are a post-rock quartet on Mogwai's Rock Action Records, they play instrumentals with such synthesized precision on Come Down with Me that the album shares the meticulous detail and slickness of an electronic soundtrack. Krautrock surfaces in the extended, Motorik-drive of “Beards,” while zippy retro keys patched right out of the Cure's “The Walk” give “Supertribe” some pep, and “Sorry About the Mess” has a Virgin Suicides symphonic atmosphere. Quite a few styles are explored, from dance beats to lush soundscapes, but everything is very congruent and similarly mesmerizing. Songs play into one another rather than jump around aimlessly, and Come Down with Me's straight-forward, tightly structured approach makes it perfectly shaped for background music. On the surface, it seems unintrusive and simple, yet repeated listens bring out subtle intricacies that make it highly engaging. Fans of Ratatat, Explosions in the Sky, and Tortoise take note.
