Details
[Edit]Another Sky is the seventh full-length release from this German-based Celtic-rock band. It marks a return to the independent label Deaf Shepherd, which released their first three albums. Fiddler's Green has always successfully merged traditional Irish tunes with modern rock, pop, and, to some extent, punk rock. Their Polydor recordings from 1997 and 1998 clouded that stylistic marriage somewhat but Another Sky recaptures the indie spirit of their earlier albums as the traditional and acoustic instruments are boldly up front and not hidden in the mix. "Storm Inside," "Knock on Wood," and "Jigs" are reflective of that sound restoration. If not by coincidence, Fiddler's Green appears to take their cue from New Foundland's pre-eminent folk-rock ambassadors; on 1998's Spin Around, they covered "Mary Mack" in almost identical fashion to the version found on Great Big Sea's Up and here they tackle "Donkey Riding" of which a similar arrangement can be found on Play Great Big Sea's 1997 recording.
