Two members of Oakland's longstanding Hieroglyphics collective, Opio and Pep Love have been cranking out higher-level hip-hop since the early '90s. They're undisputed indie-rap icons who continue to record and tour internationally on a regular basis. On Fallacy Fantasy, they join forces as First Light, drizzling super-lyrical verses that combine humor, humility, and storytelling over exceptional sample-propelled beats (mostly from producer Unjust of the group Chosen Few). Third-eye compadres Del the Funky Homosapien, Casual, Tajai, Phesto Dee, and A-Plus all make appearances, as do Cold Showda and Knobody. Don't miss the spacy electro vibe of "Los Lobos," the bass-heavy "Shinin'," the autobiographical "Do What I Want," or the aptly titled "Make It Pop." If you're a fan of Hiero, Souls of Mischief, or just good hip-hop, these guys have got you covered.
